Let’s Build a House!

It began, like everything else, with just a thought: “Let’s build a house!” What it became, however, was something far more than we ever expected. It became a technique for witnessing consciousness appearing as matter.

When you’re building, first, the thought may be “I want a new house.” Then comes a sketch, often on a scrap of paper or even a napkin. The idea is refined over time, thought by thought, as family becomes involved.

Everything in our world appears as thought. In fact,

There isn’t a thing
you can think of
that isn’t a thought.

Think about it!

As you refine the ideas for a house, perhaps at some point you hire an architect. What does the architect do? Again, thought by thought, stroke by stroke on the keyboard, the drawings appear. First, they appear as a concept, then as full-blown construction drawings.

At some point you may hire a builder who also—thought by thought—does the work. Each nail is driven, each tile is installed, and each bit of landscaping is planted thought by thought.

At some point, we came to realize concretely that

Consciousness is all there is.

You literally end up living in a world of thoughts!

All things exist in Divinity
under their most
pure and perfect form.

The conception of ideas can only take place in consciousness. Science used to think the brain generates consciousness and is, therefore, the source of thought. Kabbalah, however, teaches that

Human thoughts originate
in the highest ‘realm’
of consciousness…
the ultimate,
unrestricted
will of the Divine. ⁶

This viewpoint, shared by other mystical traditions, knows only absolute oneness with God. In fact, it is said that

Thoughts unspoken
are not unknown
to the divine Mind.

Desire is prayer…
